Going to stores nowadays gives you a choice at the end of your shopping trip, "would you like paper or plastic"? I have observed that most people say plastic, and I have thought about why that is. Here is just a small list of the many reasons, uses and thoughts behind the use of "plastic" bags.
1. Most importantly; recycling

2.They are great liners for your small garbage cans.

3. Good to use in the car for your garbage.

4. When you are out of freezer paper, they can be tripled and tied around food for freshness.

5. Transporting library books.

6. Taking up a whole lot of space in the cupboard becouse you have so many and have garbage bags that you are using.

7. Some poeple (for some odd reason) have them tied on their car antenae...???????I could use some help with this one.

8. Fill them up with the "things" of family members that have been left laying around where they don't belong, then have them carry it to their rooms.

9. Once in their rightful rooms, bags will be used as an "organizational" tool ie: I put it in my room with the rest of my stuff, where it belongs.

10. To many, it is luggage. Samsonite has nothing on the makers of "the magical plastic bag".

11. They are great for shoving between windows in the winter to keep the heat in. I saw it somewhere and figured they must be onto soemthing:)

12. Great to take to the park as your "doggy poop bag".

13. Used to keep the moisture out of a broken arm (whatever), & stitches when bathing.

14. Makeshift kite...yes, I have seen it.

15. Rainhats

16. Gas caps, indeed I've seen this too.

17. Gift wrap

18. Magazine and newspaper ?racks?

19. Bush, plant protectors.

20. While moving, pack your fragiles in these babies.

Do you have any new ideas or have you seen what others use these bags for? If so, I would love to hear them.

I just read this to my children and as I figured, it's official, I am going insane.(LOL)

I did the kite thing once. It really does work lol

I bought a plastic frame that is designed to hold one of those plastic bags in the shape of a trash can. It's perfect for my rig. When it get's full, I take the bad out of the frame and toss it in the trash. It's great.

I would like to know where you still get the choice. Around here, nobody has paper bags any more. For carrying and holding power, I think they were much better. They also actually stayed upright while riding home from the grocery store. Progress strikes again.

What great ideas! It's always a hard choice, especially considering the environment. Re-using the plastic bags is a great way to recycle though. When I do end up using plastic, I use them for many of the things you listed! When I get paper, I shred them to make my own paper.
I love the kite and parachute ideas!!
