Due to the circulation of pictures of an inhumaine torture inflicted on Iranian POW's, America finds itself under the watchful eye of all other countries. In light of this, are we entering into a new phase of Americans fighting amoungst themselves? Will we be entertaining to watch? Is America squirming?
With this controversy in the headlines America is forced to come to a speedy decision as to the punishment of their soldiers for their actions. Will the right decision be rendered or will a punishment be set in action in haste, becouse of the microscope we are now under? Many people will have the opinion that they should be punished to the fullest extent and others will completly disagree believing that a repremand, slap on the hand, and a month or so in the stocade is punishment enough. Either way, whatever decision is to be made will be done so for the sole purpose of prooving something to other countries.
The way that this is handled has to be done so in a manner that is appealing to other watchfull governments. Nothing will come from were it should, justice, true laws and so on, it will all come from a political aspect. Is it more politiaclly rewarding for other countries to see that we will not tolorate our own doing such acts? Like it or not, that is what matters now. The sad thing about this though is that we are truly going to be laughed at no matter what the outcome is.
Some countries and its people laugh becouse we are a fickle nation. We allow others to treat us with such disgrace and they are not punished properly, yet we wouldn't want to use an eye for an eye theory. We are so concerned about looking bad to other governments that we have become a laughing stcok. If you don't believe me, ask. Anyone who is from another country will tell you, they once respected us, but now, America is a joke.
Some of you will no doubt be angered by this article but the facts are there, everything from here out concerning this "headliner" will never truly be about right or wrong. It will be about, America; are we a strength not to be reckened with or a controversal, hypocrytical "melting pot" of do gooders, and followers scared to make a decision becouse it may not be a popular one.
